The weather wasn’t very good but equally it wasn’t that bad so we set off up the hill towards the Aiguillette d’Argentiere.

Up again, to the Aiguillette d’Argentiere
We were soon back on the TMB trail from Tre-le-Champ and the path wound its way steeply through trees and over boulders to the treeline where we had a view of the Argentiere glacier.

Impressive monolithic Aiguillette d’Argentiere loomed out of the mist, and the TMB path takes you right past its base at 1893m.

The wall of rock ahead has metal ladders and hand rails to enable walkers to negotiate the near vertical rock walls. The whole series of aids should be perfectly safe but at least one of our group wasn’t particularly happy.

Not happy at all!
At the top of the ladders the path rises again and then follows a balcony route which gently descends to Chalet des Cheserys.

Chalet des Cheserys. (smiling again)
We continued following the path across the hillside with some views across the valley to the Mont Blanc massif. As we approached the Refuge de la Felgere the landscape is scarred by pistes trackes and lifts. Refuge de la Flegere is immediately below the cablecar station.

We had decided not to stay at the refuge and as it was only 14:00 we walked on for a couple of hours along the very pleasant path. There is a short rocky section with steps and a handrail. The TMB then follows a contouring path to the open grasslands at Charlanon. We saw some marmots on the slope above Plan Praz. The complex of lifts and pistes scars the landscape hereabouts.
We decided to go down to Chamonix from Plan Praz and make our way back to our Hotel at Argentiere and return the next morning to complete our TMB.
