We had a wonderful view of the Grand Jorasses from our bedroom window at Rifugio Bonatti.

After an early breakfast we were on our way again.

Leaving Rifugio Bonatti
There were some early clouds hanging in the valley

Early morning clouds on the view back to Col de la Seigne
but we still had a magnificent view back to Col de la Seigne.
The views from the trail heading up the Val Ferret were exciting and as we headed to the valley floor we fought our way through alpenrose, bilberry and larch. The path climbs steeply from the valley floor continuing to Rifugio Elena at 2062m where we stopped for coffee.

We looked across to Glacier de Pre de Bar

The Glacier de Pre de Bar
which sweeps down from Mont Dolent.
We began the long uphill slog of 500m to Grand Col Ferret 2537m and crossed the border into Switzerland.

After about an hour of fairly gentle descent we arrived at La Peule 2071m which is a summer dairy farm.

La Peule
We stopped for a beer and a sandwich at La Peule and just as we started our descent into Val Ferret it started to rain. There was thunder and lightening all around us but we continued losing height steadily and soon reached the valley floor and the hamlet of Ferret.

Dropping down to Ferret in the rain
We continued down the valley through our first taste of Switzerland to our destination of La Fouly.

La Fouly (all the houses in Switzerland are like this!)
